NMMS Scholarship Scheme 2025: Annual ₹12,000 Aid, Eligibility Rules & Apply Process

The National Means–Merit Scholarship – NMMS Scheme 2025–26 launched by the Department of School Education & Literacy under the Ministry of Education, continues to be one of India’s most impactful initiatives for supporting economically weaker students. Aimed specifically at Class 9 students studying in government, government-aided, or local body schools, the scheme helps prevent dropouts after Class 8 and encourages meritorious learners to pursue secondary education without financial stress. This scheme directly tackles the economic barriers that often limit access to education by providing an annual scholarship of rs 12,000 to students from Class 9 to 12 studying in government, government-aided, or local body schools. The NMMS Scholarship Scheme has been instrumental in motivating students to stay consistent with their academic progress and reducing the financial burden on families belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Conditions)

Students must meet the following requirements to qualify for the NMMS Scholarship 2025–26:

Academic Requirements

1. Candidate Must have passed Class 8 with at least 55% marks and For SC/ST students, the minimum required score is 50%.
2. Candidate Must be studying in a recognized government, government-aided, or local body school in India.
3. The total annual family income from all sources must not exceed rs 3,50,000.
4. Only students appearing for the state-level NMMS examination in Class 8 are eligible.
5. Candidates who qualify both test papers (MAT & SAT) with the minimum required score will be considered for selection.
6. Students studying outside India are not eligible.

Scholarship Benefits & Disbursal Process

The NMMS scholarship provides significant financial assistance to deserving students. Here’s an overview of what selected candidates receive:

1. Funds are allocated from the Annual Budget of the Ministry of Education.
2. Scholarships are disbursed through State Bank of India (SBI) or any core-banking-enabled scheduled/public sector bank.
3. Amount is transferred directly to students through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
4. Awardees must have their own Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

NMMS Cutoff 2025

Exam Pattern & Structure of NMMS 2025–26

The NMMS selection test is conducted in two parts, each designed to assess different cognitive and academic abilities.

1. Students must score at least 40% in each paper.
2. SC/ST candidates get a relaxation of 5%, requiring 35% marks in each test.
3. Students with disabilities are permitted additional time per guidelines.

Step-by-Step Guide to Apply Online for NMMS 2025–26

The NMMS application process is completely online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The procedure is divided into two major stages: New Registration and Fresh Application.

New Registration Steps

1. Visit the Registration page on the National Scholarship Portal.
2. Read the registration guidelines carefully and accept the undertaking.
3. Fill in the required details (fields marked with an asterisk are compulsory).
4. After submitting, the system will generate your Application ID and Password, also sent via SMS.

Fresh Application Steps

1. Go to the Applicant Login page and enter your Application ID and password.
2. Enter the Captcha and proceed.
3. Verify your mobile number using the OTP and reset the password.
4. Access the Applicant Dashboard and open the “Application Form” section.
5. Fill in personal, academic, and bank details and upload the necessary documents.
6. You may Save as Draft or submit using Final Submit.
